In the beginning...

I've always been fascinated with computers since my high school days. At that time, affiliate marketing program was a blur to people. My dear Dad wanted me to become a doctor...he had been a hospital administrator all his working life and seeing doctors gave orders to nurses and successfully seeing patients after patients, seem to be his obsession. He knew that one day one of his kids would soon be one of those white uniformed doctors he always met in hospital hallways and cafeteria. I was that kid given the task to fulfill his dream. To make the long story short, I graduated from Pre-medicine, with flying colors, for only 3 1/2 years by overloading course units every single semester and summer sessions. At that point, I realized that I wasn't very happy with the direction that my Dad wanted me to take; but, I didn't want to disappoint him. One day, I did the unthinkable which changed my life forever! Little did I know that I made the best decision at that moment which shaped up what I have accomplished to this very day that brought me to my very 1st blog, this blog on my journey to start the best home business opportunity in affiliate marketing program.

My best decision ever...

After my Pre-medicine graduation, I secretly enrolled in computer classes without my Dad's knowledge. I didn't proceed to medical school. Every single day, it appeared I went to school but it's the computer school not the medical school that he was always so proud of chatting with his associates at work. The computer school program was tough but it was even the toughest to think of the guilt I had to deal with every single day going to computer school instead of the medical school. I breezed through my computer training on my first year. My instructors and the computer school director saw some potential in me to assist some of their faculty especially in summer when the enrollment was at its peak. In my second year, I went on over drive in completing all the computer course requirements (i.e., COBOL, FORTRAN, Assembler Programming, RPG-Report Program Generator, etc.) during the day. Best of all, I was offered a part-time teaching in the evening at the same computer school which I dreaded going to every single day with fear that someone, somehow may had seen me taking classes there. That very evening after I got the job offer to teach part-time, I felt so relieved knowing that I can finally let go of my guilt; afterall, it wasn't that bad. I may had abandoned medical school but the reward of fulfilling my childhood dream of pursuing a career in data processing was all that matters...really. My Dad didn't take the news very well. "Why did you just want to become a computer operator, he asked? I said, "Papa, I won't be an operator; I'll be a computer programmer. The school offered me a part time teaching position in the evening; but, don't worry, I won't be teaching forever. Believe me, this is just the beginning of my journey to the world of computers."

Few years later...

It came to pass that my computer teaching experience brought me so many wonderful memories on and off campus. I rubbed elbows with some of the most intelligent and fascinating computer professionals I met along the way. I learned a lot from them; but, it won't be long until I would say goodbye to the computer professionals who recognized my potential to fathom what it's really like to understand the bits and bytes that give life to what we simply know as the "computer". I was leaving my native country, Philippines, to join my parents, sister and her family in the USA which many said is the "land of opportunity".

Life in the USA...

Not bad at all! Adjusting to the severe cold morning hours in San Francisco, California USA was tough at first especially walking 3-5 blocks from Montgomery BART station to my work at one of the most profitable and competitive telecommunication companies at that time. Hard work, perseverance, and courage propelled my way up the corporate ladder. Guess what my first management promotion was: Programming Analyst! Guess who's my number 1 fan...my Dad! I've never seen him looked so convinced that being a "rebel" (which he sometimes labeled me during family discussion) was after all, the best doctor's prescription. Five years into my employment, romance came knocking on my door when I least expected it. I settled down with my long lost childhood neighbor in the Philippines. He was working as an Electrical Engineer in the Middle East. I never thought we would hook up again years later since the time we both left our native country. Couple of years after we got married, we started raising a family and have two wonderfuly boys. As two parents working full time and raising a family, we absolutely had our share of ups and downs; however, I never relinquished my desire to learn all there was to learn at my job. I was very blessed to learn all the facets in the telecommunication industry and grew professionally from every single career assignments thrown my way...human resources, customer service & operations, repair & maintenance, billing, Information Technology, sales operations & support. Along the way, I craved for something different in my life. Was this mid-life crisis? Maybe, or has my boredom started to kick in because of the rat race that I was in. I started to feel unhappy, sort of the same feeling I felt in college when I didn't have any choice which way to go. I wanted out but where to? I knew what I wanted and I knew how to get it. This time, I needed to get my aggression going again in high gear. So, every evening when the kids and my hubby were in bed, I'd log in to the website of a community college where I enrolled in lots of online computer courses, i.e., creating a website, cgi, java, perl, basic programming, etc. Name it, and I enrolled in it. My strong foundation in information technology propelled me faster than ever to cruise through these courses. Although I felt like a walking zombie in the morning for lack of sleep, I forced to energize myself for yet another long repetitive day's routine. My husband didn't like the long hours I spent at night pouring into all these online computer courses. I told him I like to prepare myself at all times in case I wanted to bail out of employment so I can have my own best home based internet business. I'd been a risk taker my entire living life and this was no different from what I did so many years back in my college days. The dramatic days were yet to come...

The challenges were underway...

Pressures were everywhere for me...ongoing job challenges, 2 1/2 hours two-way commute to and from work, raising a family, continuing online computer/internet education in the evenings, not enough sleep, and just dealing with life's daily grind. Gradually, the quality of our lives was spiralling down. Don't get me wrong...my salary and work performance were very up to par and I was more than satisfied with it. However, I felt that the more recognition I got the more intensified my work functions were. I started to bring home some work most days and weekends just to catch up with my work load. Although travel (local & domestic) to host promotional events wasn't daily, it was a must and part of my job functions. Irregular but frequent baby sitting arrangements took a toll on the family especially when I was away for several days on business trips. It took a much more psychological negative impact on my oldest son because he always got sick couple days before my travel. Eventually, he confessed to me that he's afraid I won't be back safe from my trip because my plane might crash or somebody might hurt me at the hotel since I was alone in the room. At this point in our lives, I felt things were all going down hill for me. Money was excellent for both my husband and me working full time; however, everything we dreamed of accomplishing seemed very distant. Something had to be done if we wanted to stay healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally so we can live in our 90's and enjoy our future grandchildren. We had to sacrifice and give up something in favor of our long term goal. The best had yet to come...

The toughest decision ever...

After 23+ years employment with the telecommunication industry, I was faced with one of the toughest decision ever...should I give up my career now and lose my place in Corporate America? What happens to our financial health? How could we send our kids to the best schools in the country? How would I survive from boredom being a stay-at-home Mom? Would our lifestyle change dramatically? Was I in a state of denial to even confront myself to answer these questions? My husband and I had a lot of brainstorm sessions on what lies ahead with only 1 income in a family of four. We've always live within our means; so, we never had trouble managing our finances from the get go. Our boys were always involved in every family matters from managing their share of household chores and homework to budgeting their time and allowance. We never had trouble raising our kids who always understood the importance of teamwork. The date has finally arrived, end of July, 2000 when I submitted my resignation from my 23+ years of employment. My boss and the entire group were shocked! But for me, there's no turning back...this is it! I was so ready to turn the next chapter of my journey and looked forward to the future.

Y2K (Year 2000) and beyond...

From Corporate America to Stay-At-Home Mama (SAHM)! It was a good thing for me and the family; however, I never realized the amount of work, challenges, and frustrations I had to deal with as a full time Mom until this time. I gave KUDOS to all the full time Moms out there! This was more than an 8-hour job Sunday-Saturday. But since I asked for it...then I have to deal with it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was...it's just a matter of establishing and getting used to daily repetitive routines. My oldest son started high school and my youngest was in 3rd grade. Everyday after I dropped off my boys in school, I knew I had my busy days cut out for me. I hang out a lot at the city library reading books about starting your own online home based internet business. I took some more online internet courses and this time, things really took off for me in a direction I would never have imagined. Being self-employed wasn't easy as I thought; however, deep in my heart I always knew I could do it. Maybe, it's just a matter of patience one internet business course at a time. Although I'd done some drastic decision making in the past, I took my time to really challenge myself if starting a home business was right for me. But what kind of home business opportunity would be suited for me. I learned all these terms such as niche market, search engine, page ranking, google, ebay, affiliate marketing program, high commission best affiliate marketing program, affiliate marketing website, etc. I also knew the importance of researching and understanding some internet business ideas, guide to best affiliate marketing programs, home business income opportunity reviews, home business ideas, internet business ideas online, and the list goes on. But how do I put all these pieces together? The Entrepreneur In The Making...next.

The making of an entrepreneur...

It's been an amazing new chapter in my journey since leaving my mark from Corporate America. I never considered my departure from the work force as a resignation nor a retirement; but rather, a transition into another world of adventure and challenge that I've never been. It seemed like I got the best (or worst) of both worlds: managing both home and business fronts. Being the risk taker that I'd been at an early age in my growing life, I saw both fronts as the best opportunities manageable as I ever wanted in my entire adult life. For some odd reason(s), I launched both my mail order and vending business rather than the online internet business that I originally planned for. I even asked myself, "Why on earth am I doing this?" Was this a drastic move...maybe. This move brought so much meaning to my life as entrepreneur in a very positive way. I was a self-made person who discovered that patience is a virtue when you're working for yourself. Be honest to accept your mistakes and be very flexible to make lots of room for improvement. If learning from your failure was the only option to improve, then, let it be. It's better to fail by trying rather than failing without even attempting to try.

2004...

A year to be reckoned with! My oldest son graduated in the top 10 (4th place) from high school and entering college (Pre-med) in fall, my youngest son was in 7th grade, and my two business efforts were in the back burner. Low sales, credit cards to pay for, and too much inventory on hand put my entrepreneurial dream on a nose dive. What's next for me? A lot to put behind me and so much more to look forward to... I dreaded the word FAILURE; however, it also resonated clearly in my mind that my two (not so successful) business efforts served the purpose and served me well as a business intern. The internship was over and I needed to move on to better and greater things. While HTML was and will always be associated with programming codes that made the internet marketing arena a force to be reckoned with today, I was also brewing my own HTML (Have To Make List) of very critical dont's to avoid the same mistakes I had with two previous business ventures. My renovated business plan for my next move was in sight as well as my new vision. Would my 2nd time be a charm? Next...

Is the 2nd time a chance or a charm?

Although my two business ventures were sort of in the back burner, small sales were still trickling in. It's not a whole lot but it's still flowing in steadily while I was busy researching for online affiliate marketing business opportunity. I started signing up for a list of best affiliate marketing programs that can provide me directory of helpful tips, resources, and articles to kick off my journey to online home business opportunity. The affiliate marketing program opportunities were endless...some required fees to get in while others were free. Although most of these home business opportunities promised an overnight millions to earn, some were decent and honest in their approach. But, how do you search for the best affiliate marketing program? There's so many online home income experts who weighed in on their favorite and most trusted affiliate marketing websites. Personally, I learned the 3 step process to succeed as an affiliate: 1) choose a niche market; 2) build a rich content website; 3) diversify your choices of affiliate programs. Each step encompassed quite an amount of research, testing, and dependency on each other. I thought that these steps work with each other. Of course, it's not an overnight process but more of an ongoing long term project. How does this whole operation work? Is there a code that unlocks the mystery of the online internet business? Is an internet marketer emerging soon?

They call it HTML...I simply say, this code is the key.

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is simply a programming language that consist of codes to put together a website. Having learned different programming languages after college helped me tremendously in "cracking the code" and understanding how the pieces fit together to form the big picture called the website. I haven't done any programming work for over 20+ years since my employment with the telecommunication industry in the mid 80's; however, I was very excited to revisit my past passion with code via HTML. For me, the use of templates was the easiest, most efficient, and quickest way to create a website. Typing in text into an html editor wasn't enough. Adding images and creating hyper links could be very challenging but rewarding if you have patience. Well, it seemed like, an internet marketer was emerging just around the corner...

I found my niche...

But what is a niche and niche marketing? Niche is a special area of demand for a particular product or service. Niche marketing is finding a small area of a big market and selling products or services to that small area. Examples: a niche market of people who love scrapbooking, who specialize in foreclosure real estate, travel market is not a niche but European travel is a niche within the travel market, and the list goes on. You get the idea. Home business market is not a niche but there are tons of specific home business opportunities of which each one is a niche market. Examples: day care is a niche within a home business market, my first two home business ventures: mail order and vending were niche markets. In mail order, I specifically targeted customers who had history of buying items from catalogs and in vending, I installed several vending machines at fast food, groceries, hair salons, and other highly visible public areas. But this time, I found my niche in affiliate marketing program. Wikipedia defines affiliate marketing as an internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliates' marketing efforts. Examples: I signed up as an affiliate for google, amazon, ebay, yahoo, etc. As an affiliate, I sell other people's products that I posted on my website; therefore, there's no inventory involved. Shipments, exchange, and/or return of goods ordered were all handled by the merchants that I'd been an affiliate with. Affiliates are paid on commissions on per click, lead, or sale basis. Commissions are paid either weekly, monthly, quarterly, and sometimes instantly. This was a big relief for me...no inventory, no face-to-face selling with customers, no cold calling, nada; however, advertising was and will always be the key to a successful home business. My very first website was signed, sealed, and delivered with my commitment to focus on what really matters to me...my childhood dream to have my own online home based business. This must be my time now and this was October, 2007.

I've diligently created every single page in this website, added all the links, completed all the color combination possible and name it, I did it all. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) was front and center in each and everyday I created a page. I've advertised it on trafficswarm, craigslist, backpage, kijiji, usfreeads, etc. and in every advertising nooks on this planet. After six months into this effort I started attending webinar and Q&A every week. Learning how to write articles, join forums, sign up for a lot more affiliate programs, creating a squeeze page, (and the list goes on) were the discussion focuses. But something was missing in the picture...there's no list and structure in all that I did. Like what everyone said...the money is in the list! What list? Remember my very first two business adventures? Well, seemed like history repeats itself? So, my second chance in business didn't seem like a charm at all or was this another failed business effort? Not quite. Although I was still making money from most of the affiliate programs I signed up for, I wasn't jumping up and down with joy because I set the bar too high for me; yet, I didn't think my earning was satisfactory. Of course, I wasn't expecting to earn millions overnight but still, I wasn't so thrilled at my earning results. Maybe giving up was the right thing to do or maybe I wasn't really cut out for this business thing or was I just a plain loser or a FAILURE? Then, one late evening, while surfing at trafficswarm, I came across this ad about a washed up restaurant worker who cracked the code and made his fortune. Not again...more promises and much more signups to deal with. For some odd reason(s), this ad just kept coming back over and over and over on my screen each time I clicked on another ad. This time, I took a much close and personal look at what this guy was saying and how convinced was I with his story. My list of subscribers and my commission were growing and so were the confidence and determination I had all along within me. All in all, if I were to go back in time of my after college rebellious years coupled with some business failures along the way, I can say that rebel and failure were just what the doctor ordered. Deep in my heart, my Papa (and my Mama) up above me had been looking out for me and knew that their little girl will do just fine. It may have taken me longer to reach my own level of business success and costed me the longest journey home but I knew I'll finally find my niche (a third time is a charm) on October 9, 2008.
